How to volunteer to provide rides for seniors to medical appointments

Basics of being a SWOOP volunteer with seniors

  • Transport older adults to and from their medical appointments, grocery store, pharmacy, senior center and more
  • Volunteer Driver will wait with senior and return him/her home after appointment
  • Done on a one-on-one basis
  • To be a careful and responsible driver
  • To meet transportation request upon assignment
  • Drivers must call patient immediately when unable to meet the assigned request

Volunteer Driver Qualifications and Requirements

In order to be in a volunteer driver for SWOOP, the following requirements must be met:
  • Must enjoy being with people and have desire to help with transportation of individuals with needs for special transportation
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must maintain vehicle in a good working condition
  • Must have access to a phone, in case of an emergency
  • Skills: Patience, friendly, enjoy the company of seniors
  • Complete a Volunteer Application
  • Complete Disclosure & Agreement Form to run a background check
  • Sign a Volunteer Code of Conduct
  • Volunteer must attend a 2-hour training class
