About DriveaSeniorSA.org — a United Way project for volunteer recruitment and retainment

Our Volunteer Recruitment and Retainment Program is a United Way project. It is an enrichment program for the individuals that DRIVE our program giving free rides to seniors for medical appointments, grocery store, pharmacy, senior center and more. Without a volunteer driver, SWOOP would not be able to serve the seniors enrolled in our program. Recruitment and retainment of volunteer drivers is crucial to the long-term sustainability of SWOOP.

This project is viable through partnerships and our affiliation with United Way. Because of the in-kind office space at Westside Education Training Center (WETC), an Alamo College location, and the funding provided by United Way, SWOOP is able to begin a new program to directly impact our transportation program. This program enhances our current program and helps us build capacity to continue offering transportation to senior citizens in our area.

Our CAR CARE Program is also a United Way project.

“My mobility isn’t what it used to be, so it’s nice to know I can count on my SWOOP volunteer to get me where I need to go. Not only has he become a friend, he’s a part of my family.”
