SWOOP is solely here for the community we serve.

Our goal is to build a transportation program that can be sustained for the future; reliable transportation that focuses on the senior’s needs by offering them what other transportation options cannot. Our program offers FREE transportation, provided by a VOLUNTEER who wants to serve a senior and who will not leave them until they are done with their appointment. It’s not a job for our volunteers—it’s a heartfelt decision to serve.

Betty Eckert

I have been a San Antonio resident for about 85 years and lived in Olmos Park Terrace for 51 years and I love my neighborhood .I have one daughter and two Grandsons. One Grandson adopted 22 children and one has two children born to him .Which makes me the Great, great Grandmother to a lot of children. I am very proud of my family.

I currently serve on several boards and commissions, my passion being the San Antonio City and Bexar County Joint Commission on Elderly Affairs. As a volunteer I had the priviledge of operating Kenwood Senior Center for about 13 years. At this time I learned the needs of our Seniors in Bexar County. I soon discovered that there was two very important challenges for our seniors and they were both top priority. One was nutrition and the other was transportation and I have decided to dedicate the rest of my life to trying to make a difference in this need. Therefore I became a Board member to SWOOP and will do my best to see we have more and better transportation for our Seniors in San Antonio and Bexar County.

“My mobility isn’t what it used to be, so it’s nice to know I can count on my SWOOP volunteer to get me where I need to go. Not only has he become a friend, he’s a part of my family.”
